I was just wondering "in real life" and not in the UK media whats going on with the new law saying that only locals can buy and smoke cannabis in Amsterdam?
Is it true that the law is coming into place, if so when? Will the good old Dutch coffee shop owners pay about as much attention to it as they do to the no baccy indoors no weed outdoors rules? (basically not much). Or if it does happen how will we get our weed whilst out around Amsterdam? They say its to stop "drug tourism" which they say means stopping nieghbouring countries driving to Holland and then selling back over the border in their own countries. Surely this will still carry on as the weed is still being manufactured in holland so people will find ways of buying it and taking it back. People will still buy drugs regardless of law, there will be more dealers on the street that can kindly offer to sell you some heroin at the same time, plus you wont need any ID to prove you are old enough so even the kiddies can get it! There will be no quality control so they can mix it with cancer causing chemicals and no offical weights and measurements rule so it wont be weighed in front of you so you will also get skanked just like in the good old UK. Personally I think its a terrible idea, line the governments pockets by taxing it not the dealers. |

just an afterthought I wonder if illegal "weed shops" will open up reminiscent of the "booze houses" of 1930s prohibition America?

I don't think the 'weed pass' will be enforced in Amsterdam.
The current mayor has refused to endorse/enforce it, so that will delay it for a couple of years. Also the 'xtian democrats' who propose all the 'tough on cannabis' laws basically achieve their aims by proposing the laws and making a lot of noise about them, rather than enforcing them. Acting 'tough' gets 80% of the political traction that actually doing something would achieve. When the 'something' in this case would cost a huge amount of money to enforce, while simultaneously costing Amsterdam a couple of billion euro per year, I really doubt it will happen in the foreseeable future. I could be wrong, of course. The xtians may cut off the nose to spite the face. But I doubt it. The border provinces which have introduced the weed pass have all seen a sudden, massive increase in street dealing and associated criminality. Set phasers to 'shocked'... |

Wow... nobody saw that coming. Still at least the clear up rate will improve
Whats a xtian?
I have to say tho, enforced or not, im not going to take the chance. Broadcasting this is much more likely to scare off tourists than hard core crims anyway. Makes you wonder what they were thinking if its not even going to be enforced.

Why are they so fucking oppressive? Humans will continue to take substances even if their drug of choice is known to cause illness. If there were some way in developed societies for adults over a certain age of sound mind and judgment to legally obtain substances surely it would be better all round. This would create more jobs, better quality products, less convictions more open and honest discussion about problems with drugs. I've thought about this a lot in my life, even had a rant on the net a few times. I guess I'm preaching to the converted so I'll end it here.

You would of thought though, that with all the Austerity measures taking place over the world that cannabis would no longer be under the radar. What with police cut backs etc. Then there's the court cost's and sometimes the cost to imprison some poor bugger who just grew a bit too much for themselves etc.
Afterall we are talking about one of the least harmful drugs out there ( I don't like calling cannabis a drug ). Oh well.
