Hi everyone, hope I can get the help I need here. I've read a few books on the subject, and several threads on this site. I'll be posting my experiences with my first project so any help is greatly appreciated.

So I got these today and I'm going with the wet kitchen paper germing technique, unless this is an outdated method now?

Questions that strike me right away:

1. After germing, I'm planting straight into 17 litre pots of BioBizz allmix, is this a bad idea for any reason, i.e. pots too big, or soil too nutrient rich?

2. I don't really want these going over 5.5ft. Has anyone got experience starting them on 12/12 right away?

3. When do I need to go buy a carbon filter i.e. how long until I can expect a detectable smell?

Thanks!

1. bad idea... pots too big and the soil mix is likely to be too strong for seedlings. Small pots are the go for newly germinated seeds.... about the size of a coffee mug with a seed raising mixture. you'll be able to go to the allmix by the time they need potting up.

2, I'd probably give them a week or so to get going... but they should be right starting in 12/12 lighting.

3. You'll need a carbon filter when they begin to give off an identifiable odour... how long that will be cannot be determined.

good choice of strain cant wait to see how you go.

i agree with sarah smaller pots and seed raising mix will be the best start. in soil i prefer to start with smaller pots and work my way up gradually to the finishing pot as i find if the pots too big they stay too wet for my liking

good luck and keep em green

Hey,

good luck with ya grow :).

I think i'm gonna get these seeds next.

A grower did flower these quite small, if you look through the diary section you should be able to find it, there could be some useful info for you :).

I might be well off the mark but if you veg em till they are 12" they still might not reach 5.5. You can also top them this will reduce the height, but buy some canes.

About the smell, it depends where they are. I have veg 12 upto 12" with not much smell, but i had some little other plants that stank. The extraction is not just for the smell, but to bring in fresh air and help regulate the temps.

As Sarah has pointed out it's best to start them in small pots then work you way up. ( water them less, use less feed, closer to the light and easier to manage)

Thanks guys, really excited about getting this going, just picking up the final supplies tomorrow.

I've heard a general rule of thumb is to buy pots with a capacity of 4-5 litres per foot of plant growth, meaning if I wanted to keep these under the 5 foot mark I'd need to keep them in 20 litre pots or less. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?

I'm basically trying to weigh up whether to grow 3 plants in smaller 15-17L pots, or 2 plants in 22L pots (floor space in the grow closet measures in at a tiny 90 by 55cm).

Thanks as always!

I use 11ltrs, and have had a couple of tall plants in the past. i think the amount of time you veg them for, will be a bigger factor than final pots size :).

That's not a lot of floor space, should fit 3 plants though.

What light are you using for veg and flower? How l;ong are you going to veg them for?

Have heard stories of real giants on this strain so was going to veg for as short as possible (either 18/6 or 24/0 for 5-7 days)... again, any recommendation here appreciated!

I have a 600W HPS sunmaster I'm going to use for both veg & flower as it is a dual spectrum bulb.

Hey,

If it was me I'd go for the 3 plants rather than 2. (just in case they don't turn out as big as you thought).

Have you got 5'5" of total room, or plant size, cause if it's total, then you won't want your plants much over 1 meter.

This is where I am after 2 days of germination in something called 'root riot' that my hydro supply shop convinced me to buy. It looks like only 3 are showing signs of life:

What should I do now? I'm keeping them dark, warm and moist but do they need moving into their pots under the 24/0 light yet? Any speedy responses welcome!

The seedlings need light now, the root riots will need to be potted up once you see a root tip poking through the bottom. Make sure the cubes don't dry out before you put them into pots. Moving air will be necessary in a few days time... for now warmth, moisture and enough light are the main requirements.
