Everyday I keep pushing large fan leaves right under the canopy, trying not to harm them but just put them out of the way because I know that pruning them is not advised yet I need the light down there. Has anyone got any thoughts on this? Will it stress the plant and will it think it is damaged, will this slow bud production and have the opposite effects?? Etc..?
Thoughts on this please?

If large fan leaves are stopping developing buds from receiving light, the best solution is to push, bend or otherwise hold them out of the way.
This way, the big leaves can still receive light, photosynthesise and give energy to the plant, without putting the all-important buds in the shade. This is definitely a better solution than cutting leaves. |

Thanks, do other people agree? I am having this debate with a fellow grower, we are both fairly novice and he is into pruning leaves and believes in that where'as from what I have read bending is a better method with less stress and gives leaves the plant with more energy.

There are anecdotal arguments that pruning leaves makes plants grow faster, but not much supporting evidence.
Growers with a fair bit of experience tend to agree that pruning leaves should be a last resort. The large fan leaves are where plants catch most of their light, and are therefore vital to fast, healthy growth. |
