never had this before but recently got my hands on some ICE-OLATOR, when i got it it was really light yellow and stank of skunk, the older it got the darker it became, and started to smell more like a a normal lump of hash, i had 2 chunks of it, when i got round to smoking the older now much darker lump i noticed a few things, it was now much squidgier, darker and smelled much less skunky than the other bit, when i smoked it (through my bong) i noticed immediately it was not as strong, there was more of a tickle too and when the hit arrived it was a more mongy high. This was definately the same hash but not looked after by me as well, it seemed that the air had got to it and made it go "off". i just wondered why this happened and has anyone else experienced similiar? why does it not happen with "normal" hash, was it just so fresh? what could i have done to stop this from happening? How should i have stored it? |

All hash degrades and loses quality over time.
Pressing resin powder into a single, consistent mass of hashish slows the breakdown, as does keeping hash (or resin powder) in a cool, dark place. Buds stored for any length of time should be kept in a cool, dark place as well, to stop the resin crystals on their surface from breaking down in the same way. Basically, resin powder(/glands/trichomes/crystals) is made up of microscopic balls of THC oil. Each ball is held together by its own surface tension and by an ultra-thin coating of an organic, waxy substance. Think of unpressed resin as thousands of tiny jellybeans, water balloons or gel capsules. Working the resin powder - heating it, folding and turning it, applying pressure to it - breaks these little globes and allows the oily substance within to leak out and mingle with the oil of all the other pressed glands. This is the process that turns dry yellow/beige/brown powder into dark, soft, sticky hash. In regions with a long history of hash making (India, Afghanistan, Nepal) they usually work the resin by hand, in small amounts, before collecting the hand-rubbed pieces into larger blocks. The hash made in these regions is usually black and soft, due to the hand-working (and sometimes the method of collection). In these areas, properly worked hash is made into balls or other easily-handled shapes and then given a thorough final rolling, which helps build up a harder, airtight skin around the surface. This helps the wetter worked resin inside stay fresh and protects it from drying out, from fungal damage, etc. This form is usually not seen in the west, as few people buy full-sized pieces and because the original shapes are generally lost when hash is prepared for smuggling. Also, Moroccan hash is usually not hand-worked, just pressed. Hot-pressing (where the press itself is heated up) helps form a similar skin over the surface of pressed blocks. If resin powder is not worked into a homogeneous mass, it is much easier for the individual resin glands to be affected by age, heat and light. This is probably the reason the older sample lost its smell (cannabis aroma is based on terpenoids in the resin and bud, which are also volatile oils that can simply evaporate over time) and was more stony (THC breaks down into CBN with heat and time). Not sure why yours would have gotten more black and squidgy, though. Did the degraded piece get left next to a heat source? Heating raw resin without pressing it is not a good idea. In their unpressed state, heated resin glands will start to degrade and break down. On the other hand, if a lot of glands are heated while under pressure, or pressed immediately after heating, partial breakdown of their structure is a good thing, as the oil inside will be forced out at the same time and can bond into a single consistent mass. |

Hash here is total crab id like to know whatta hell happens to it while smugglin and how long it takes from press to here. Goddamn Ive spent thousands of euros for that crap its like sand but few years ago I finally got it. Its not worth 10e/g and now even 12e/g-15e/g, what a rip off. I grow my own weed and I know its good.
