I think a food dehydrator has very little added heat.

The ones I've seen mostly blew air over whatever was being dried, and sucked the air out the top with a fan.

I think they're  a good way to dry weed or wet resin powder (from water hash).

Ganja, I thought you were a proponent of the natural drying method, no paper bags or shoeboxes to speed up the process!!Wink
 
Personally, when I get impatient, I dry a few small buds in the oven at just below 100 C for 30 minutes or so. The weed gets very dry and powdery, loses around 95% of its weight and tastes a bit gacky, but it doesn't seem to lose any of its potency.

You can disable the heating element by cutting a cord - the model I own is adjustable from 95-155 F.  Anything above 95 turns my product into crispy shake - buds first, stems lastly.
