These take can take alot more.

EC does have to do with how your internodes stretch. Higher EC turns up the viscosity of the feeding water. Chemical processes in the plant speed up. A lower EC can get your plants to stretch easier this way and stretched plants need more energy (longer petioles and stems). Also a Higher EC cant burn the roots (unless your overfeeding heavily)
At least according the B.A.C. online.

Still apart from that, that doesnt change the fact that start on EC 1.4 to 1.6 with Ferro coco in my area gives stressed plant. Starting on EC 1.8 here gives healthy plants. Not that hard to compare. So I conclude according that Dutch Passion article and this experience with a higher EC, that I have been underfeeding seedlings which is causing hermies!!!

Also did you ever notice purple stems and lightgreen/yellow leaves from overfeeding? Overfeeding starts with dark green leaves having burned tips usually. Coco is very hard to overfeed... especially when your using 1:250.

Ferro testes water and adapts nutrients in the Netherlands. I got location Den Helder and is supposed to be the same is my area, so yes these nutrients should be specifically for my area( high quality 2-component 19-19-20). They advised me to work with EC from 1.5 to 2.2, as I already consulted them sometime ago.
Still my tapwater has EC 0.7 which is frikking high.
I used to use Canna Coco, but that quickly raised EC and gave garbage in my waterreservoir.

Thanx for your opinion BM.... but I'm sticking to EC 2.0 for my doublegums and I predict these won't go hermie.

Edited by BlackVeined - 21 October 2008 at 21:04

Also he grows cheese, which is sativa dominant and demands less nutrients if it is sativa. Still in 11 L pots het feeds 3500 mL EC 1.2. Take into account the coco is clean of nutrients.

I'm still amazed starting seedlings at EC 1.8. I only got this high since starting from EC 1.4 to 1.6 leads to lack of mainly nitrogen. My tapwater is EC 0.7 and the nutrients are specially for my area.
Also if you use a higher EC you prevent stretching and keep the internodes more squad. Indicas even can take alot.

Read a post on hermaphrodism from Dutch Passion last night. According their research the nutrients would (as I expect) be the problem:

http://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/18499-hermaphrodites.html

Though nutrient shortage probably is the problem, White Skunk actually did great on the same schedule. These Mr. Nice even got more waterings (Starting EC 1.6, rising to 1.8 over 2 weeks).

So the next lot wil start on nutrient dilution 1:250 (EC 1.8, Regional nutrients) in 9x9x10 pots coco. I'll raise the EC to 2.0 over 2 weeks and water when pots dried out to 70% of starting weight. I'll be surprised if Mr. Nice seedlings on coco still demand more... '
Since these failures actually got 18/6 for 18 days instead of 2 weeks (Always after 2 weeks I seem to give them a little more growth).

The Dutch Passion paper on hermaphrodism suggests to make sure the plants are stress free in the 3rd to 4th week of vegetation. This is probably where the nutrient shortage during the seedling stage shows off. At a guess.... the males turn hermie to make sure offspring is being produced.

Ganja I´d appreciate your opinion on the above.

I cleared out my flowering closet for a fresh start and put 4 doublegums in there which are growing just fine. I did keep 2 of the Mr. Nice male hermies under daylight. Maybe I can get a nice close up to post up here...

After 4 weeks on 12/12 all plants are sexed. The 3 White Rhinos are females. Out of the 13 Mr. Nice 8 seem female and 5 show male flowers. All of these males are showing a few female flowers... So it seems the hermie trait is still there.
As all males seem hermie, I'm going to guess there will be a few female hermies.

Since their on 12/12 for 4 weeks now, its probably too late to take only a few cuttings from the White Rhinos.
Any advice?

*EDIT* I still have 21 seeds left of these Mr. Nice seeds. I'm gonna put 15 on 12/12 from seed under fluorescents. Using this method seedlings should develop surprisingly well. Males should show from day 16/17, though in my experience Mr. Nice takes longer to show first flowers than most indica's. I'll also feed them heavier from start (1:250 from start. Tried it on Doublegum and these are turning out amazing!).

I'll transfer the females to the flowering room after being sexed. If no hermaphrodite males show up, the Ferro nutrients get the blame. If one non-hermaphrodite male shows up I'll probably use it for pollination. If all males seem hermaphrodite, I probably had bad luck with a hidden recessive gene.

The Mr. Nice G13 x Hashplants after 18 days of 18/6. The back 3 plants on the most right row are 3 White Rhinos. All seeds were started in 7x7x8 small pots with coco. I started out on EC 1.6. The plants were watered again when pots weighted 70% of starting weight. Started rising EC early and they're at 1.8 now. Still show nutrient shortage. So I just started germination with a pack of doublegum switching back to starting on nutrient concentration 1:250 (as I used to without EC meter, and never had any problems), which is about EC 1.8 with my regional nutrients. They're getting some foliar nutrients twice a week so I'll expect them to get back on track.

The Mr. Nice start out branching nice far ahead of the White Rhinos. Author: BlackVeined
Subject: Mr. Nice G13 x Hashplant male Hermaphrodite
Posted: 29 July 2008 at 18:34

Since the viability of my last batch Mr. Nice G13 x Hashplant seeds (from 2002) dramatically dropped I had to produce new seeds. 7 seedlings were placed on coco. The pots were too big by mistake so the seedlings couldnt dry out the coco properly which led to a nutrient shortage and of course stress.

From 7 plants I got out of this last batch 6 turned female and 1 male. The most vigorous plants were both the bushy short internode phenotype and luckily a female and the only male.

After about 3 to 4 weeks in flowering the male started to produce white pistills from the male bananas. Over the years I've grown alot of Mr. Nice and never experienced this before. Since this was my only male I did use its pollen for a small pollination.

Could this hermaphrodism be caused by stress or could Mr. Nice still have a genetic hermaphrodite tendency?
Can I expect 50% hermafrodism from the new batch of seeds?

PS- Ganja, I'd really appreciate your opinion on this one....

The package contained 9 and a HALF seed. Except for half a seed all seeds were in good shape Anyway for the 16 euro's I germinated them the normal paper towel way. Actually none germinated. After 10 days I cracked one seed and it was alread7y starting to yeast. These seeds were from batch 308.
I immediately ordered 2 new packages of White Skunk seeds. Papertowels again and 95% germination (batch 412).
Right now I have 15 extremely vigorous White Skunk seedlings. Their only 6 days old and already screaming for nutrients. I'll probably take a picture tommorow for the gallery.
I'll at least send the package back to sensi along with a package of Double Gum which got green seeds mixed in. Anyway you might have gotten seeds from the same batch.

Good luck!

Don't forget it increases yield by 15 to 160%. That's a way too big difference to be certain of the results if you ask me, this uncertainty would make this experiment inadequate. Also there is a comparison picture of vegetables. The vegetables grown without magnetic field look extremely poor and the vegetables grown with magnetic field look just very healthy. This seems unreliable to me.

Also cannabis genetics determine yield. If you already yield around the optimal results, don't expect 160%, that's a crazy idea. Over here in holland specialists have been working hard optimizing grow setups, though i've never heard anybody about this technique here.

I wouln't try it, but if you think it might help increase, go for it! If it truly gives a significant difference in yield using the same strain and grow setup, I'd like to hear from your experiences.

Good luck!

I had one amazing growing period, uploaded some pictures of them in the photo gallery.
